Three Inventions for Flute, Clarinet and Vibraphone.
Composed 2014, published 2016. Also included in UYMP's Firewheel Anthology (ISMN M-57036-615-6), recorded by Dark Inventions.
Duration: 6-7 minutes.
Three Inventions is a short collection of three melodies, one each for Flute, Clarinet and Vibraphone. Each of these has a different character, and is accompanied by the other two instruments. Performers are invited to make many decisions about the music, small and large, ranging from when to place certain chords, to what order to play the three movements in. Some of these decisions are individual, and many of them arecollective, inviting the performers to engage with the material and create their own interpretation.
The piece was written for Dark Inventions and premiered in February 2014 at the Rotunda Museum in Scarborough.
