The Secrets of Orchestration – Workbook, with preface in English, was conceived with the aim of providing students with a practical and comprehensive tool to hone their orchestration skills. It is related to the corresponding textbook at present available in Italian (EFC038-BK) and soon in German (EFC040-BK) and follows the topics covered sequentially, enabling the reader to deal with the various contents in progressive order.
This book offers a series of exercises designed to develop students' skills, starting with the basics and gradually progressing towards more advanced notions. Each exercise has been carefully structured to provide a stimulating challenge, encouraging active experimentation and learning. In addition, each exercise is designed with a specific objective, aimed at enhancing the students’ ability to imagine sound, since this skill is essential to effectively orchestrate with expertise: it is very important to be able to inwardly hear what you have written on the score.
In the second part of this book, you will find Franco Cesarini’s model answer for each exercise. There is no question of imposing a single solution, as there are always several valid options for each musical passage. However, having access to Cesarini’s versions allows you to compare them with your own and carefully analyse the reasons that prompted him to make certain choices. Obviously, it is essential to avoid checking the model answers before beginning or while working on the exercises, but only afterwards so as not to be influenced by them.
