Description
Henri Dutilleux (1916–2013) is recognised as one of the greatest French composers of the 20th century, as well as a key player in the dissemination and teaching of music. A sense of colour and a formal conciseness are the hallmarks of his elegant musical language, which drew its inspiration from various twentieth-century trends.
Written in 1947 as part of the oboe competition for the Paris Conservatoire, this Sonate is composed of three movements, the first one beginning with an austere canon while the latter two comprising more texture.
