Description
This Divertimento appeared in 1801 as the second of a set of 3 Pieces d’ Harmonie published in parts by Breitkopf and Härtel. lt was one of a number of works for wind band found in Prague by Mozart’s first biographer Niemetschek. Opinion as to its authenticity have been divided. Köchel assigned it to the appendix of doubtful works as Anh. 226, perhaps as no autograph score had survived. Since then such authorities os Saint-Foix ond Kinsky have accepted it as genuine, and in his third edition of Köchel’s catalogue (1937), Alfred Einstein identified it as one of the works Mozart wrote for the Munich Carnival in 1775, renumbering it K. 196e. However the latest edition of Köchel has relegated it once more to the appendix. For the present edition, anomalies of phrasing ond dynamic have been resolved ond obvious errors corrected, but extra phrasing marks have not been added. William Waterhouse, 1967
