It was first performed by the chamber choir Tenebrae on their album of music by Will Todd, Lux et Veritas (2014).The poem, by Rev Catherine Lomas, works beautifully set to music – there is a wonderful lyricism to the imagery of the words which cries out for music. Primarily homophonic throughout, the warm tonality and close, but cleverly-constructed harmonies will be familiar to those who know Todd’s ‘non-jazz’ choral voice.The work may offer some challenges to an intermediate choir, but is sure to be a real success with audiences and singers alike.
