Max Bruch: Kol Nidrei Op.47: Cello

Instrumental Work | Sheet Music & Songbooks
Instrumentation Cello and Piano
Composer Max Bruch
Publisher Simrock - Benjamin (Elite Edition)
Bruch's Kol Nidrei subtitled Adagio on Hebraic themes for Violincello and Piano is another wonderful display of Bruch's mastery at transforming his 'folk tunes' into art music, whilst still retaining their folk elements. Composed in 1881, the work is based on two Jewish themes, the first, an old Hebrew song of atonement, and the second is the middle section of the song O Weep for Those That Wept on Babel's Stream. Two beautiful songs made truly magnificent.

Liverpool GB Organist, composer, lapsed strings
It is one of the classics of the repertoire.

However I am not a cellist myself, and I bought this as a Christmas present for a talented young cellist in the family, an honorary granddaughter. She is not up to sight-reading it, understandably, but will work on it at her leisure.

As a lapsed viola player I used to play this piece in transcription. Looking through this present score I see no obvious problems, other than the purely technical need to be able to switch between not merely two clefs but three (treble, tenor and bass).
Potential durability of the paper; I expect my scores to last a lifetime, and for that reason I prefer them to have a heavier grade of paper for the outer covers. This one does not.

Otherwise no problems.
