Series Oxford Choral Works

Uplifting and melodic, the unforgettable tunes and infectious optimism of Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria have helped make it one of the most popular choral works in the Baroque repertoire. This edition is very cramped. 47 pages long (compared to 72 in the Ricordi). The extra clefs at beginnings of each movement are unnecessary. Layout poor compared to other editions.

This edition has nice, sharp typesetting, making it clear to read. There are significant differences between editions of this work, making them incompatible in places. For example, several movements of the old Casella edition have missing bars. These bars are properly reinstated in this Oxford edition by Everett. Compared to the Martens edition (which also reinstates the "missing" bars), there is a mismatch in movement numbers (Martens gives Gratias agimus tibi and propter magnam gloriam separate numbers). Martens gives double-dotted rhythms throughout Domine fili unigenite, while Everett uses single dots, indicating the double-dotted possibility as small stems above the stave. I spotted one crucial harmonic difference: Everett has tenors on an A# in bars 14 &15 of Gratias/Propter, where Martens has A (bars 8 & 9 of Propter in his division of movements). The piano reduction in Everett's edition is more faithful to the positions of the parts; Martens sometimes changes the octave to make the reduction more playable.
There is a helpful foreword at the start of this edition, though a bit more detail (such as differences from other editions, as mentioned in this review) would have been a welcome addition.
