Gustav Holst: A Choral Fantasia: SATB

Vocal Score | Sheet Music & Songbooks
Instrumentation SATB
Composer Gustav Holst
Publisher J. Curwen and Sons

A Choral Fantasia was written for the Three Choirs Festival in 1931. It sets verses from Robert Bridges’ poem Ode to Music, which was originally written as a homage to Henry Purcell in 1895. It is scored for Soprano Solo, SATB Chorus, Organ, Strings, Brass and Percussion. The vocal score is published here, and orchestral parts are available on hire from the publisher. This edition includes a German translation by Margarete Mohrhenn.

Gustav Holst (1874-1934) was an English composer and teacher. Having studied under Stanford and Parry, he became a close friend of Vaughan Williams – they would often critique each other’s work – and influenced composers such as Tippet and Britten. He is best remembered for his Planets suite.
