Sutton GB Full-time woodwind teacher, performer.
Great sax tutor, based on duets with backing tracks, mainly varied and contemporary originals. Sister clarinet tutor book enables mixed sax/clarinet group lessons. Highly recommended.
Book binding not great - middle pages often fall out after a few weeks. Also, sometimes the backing track titles on CD are in German.

Surrey GB Very busy woodwind teacher.
I am a very busy woodwind teacher, and this has been my favourite teaching book for many years. It is based almost entirely on original, modern duets, with 2nd parts for the teacher to play alongside the student. It is compatible with the sister book 'Introducing the Clarinet' enabling me to run mixed alto sax/clarinet lessons. It has very good quality CD backing tracks to play along with. Nice large print makes it easy to read. Each new note is introduced with a clear fingering diagram. Separate section at back with popular tunes, including several Christmas tunes.
Good introduction to notation for complete beginners, along with good technical tips on embouchure, tonguing etc. Plus history of the instrument.
The scales included in the book do not correspond directly to ABRSM syllabus, and I think it would be better if it did so, like Abracadabra.
Also, recently, many of the CD titles have been in German, which is not very helpful.
Also, the stapling is not very secure, and the centre pages tend to drop out after a while.

          Musicroom Reviews

Superb book, with a perfect pace for a beginner. My sax teacher recommended it at my first lesson - great background and the cd is a definite bonus. Would recommend without hesitation.

I find this book very useful and complete for a beginner. My teacher recommended the book and said many good things about the author. I have so far been following this 'religiously' and I must say I have no regrets. I recommended this for any serious beginner.

Excellent Saxophone tutor with playalong CD (for Alto only), and duets with teacher on every page. Compatible with 'Introducing the Clarinet' for mixed alto sax/clarinet group lessons. Includes selection of Christmas tunes.

I've just started learning to play Alto Sax and my teacher recommended this book as a play along. It's an excellent piece with good backing tracks on the CD and some interesting music to play. The book is aimed at students with teachers rather than as a stand-alone tuition method. Being in my late 30's, I enjoyed the book as it has a variety of music styles to play along with.
