Deborah Friou: Early Music For The Harp

Books | Harp

Publisher: Hal Leonard
Format: Sheet Music | Instrumental Album
This wonderful book contains a variety of songs and dances originally written in the the twelfth through to the sixteenth centuries which have been arranged for the harp. The majority of the pieces have been drawn from the medieval period, and often existed in their original form as melody line only. All of the pieces in this book are playable on the folk harp. A few do have accidentals which require level changes. An excellent collection of pieces for the harpers of today to enjoy the music of another time.

An excellent collection of (mostly) 13th century songs & dances, from across Europe (mainly France, Spain & Italy). Sympathetically arranged & clearly laid out. They range from fairly easy to quite complex/fast. The use of first & second time bars with multiple repeats adds interesting variations to the relatively simple melodies. I purchased this collection to play on a clavichord, where they work well. They would also be suitable for harpsichord or even a piano! (with a very light touch).
