      Musicroom Reviews

There are no actual "tricks" in the "3 Chord Tricks : Blue Book" songbook. Instead, there is a good selection of songs all rendered in 3 chords, making it an ideal book for the beginner, or even for the more accomplished guitarist who wants to quickly add to his repertoire. As a guitarist, sooner or later someone will ask "What songs can you play?". Its not enough to rip off long solos, people will expect you to know tunes. This clearly laid out, easy to follow book allows the player to build a collection of easy to play songs that also sound pretty good. The simplified arrangements makes them quick to learn, but they should not be overlooked because of their simplicity. Any of the tunes in the book, once mastered, can be fleshed out further to suit your own style, by using augmented chords, altering some chords, or even choosing to replace chords with their minor or seventh versions. The selection of tunes is interesting, and to be applauded. Often, 3 chord songbooks limit themselves to older tunes that may not appeal to younger players. The selections in this books include some more modern pop tunes as well as "classic" pop tunes, and a few rock standards.
