Dvorak's Symphony No.9 'From the New World' exhibits Dvorak's advocacy of the role of "negro musics" in the Western musical tradition. Upon writing his last symphony, Dvorak is known to have insisted that its melodies - particularly those of the 2nd and 3rd symphonies - reflected the character of such music. Although such assertions remain questionable, certainly his Symphony No.9 reflects the influence of folk musics on Dvorak, and remains a gem.
