Chris Adams and Michael Sullivan. The story of city youngsters evacuated in war-torn 1939. Historical background, appropriate to History Key Stage 2, is provided between the scenes by means of dialogue, statistics and 11 songs, some with two parts. Score contains parts for recorders and tuned percussion.
We used "The Evacuees" as our end of term production for year 6. It was a straightforward play, easy to learn and very effective.
Pupils enjoyed taking part and it was greatly appreciated by a wide audience.
Excellent way to understand the history studied at key stage 2.

Having taken part in this musical myself as a primary school pupil I found this really enjoyable to take part in again, but this time as the musical director! The music and script are captivating both for the pupils and audience, and all the pupils really enjoyed being envolved and finding out about real evacuees. A real cross-curricular educational experience! Anonymous
