High quality, 'proper' piano arrangements for the advanced player - not for the faint hearted! My Jazz pupils love them!

This book is wonderful for beginners in jazz, or those who have come to it later in life, as I have, and find jazz to be something new and exciting, as well as being slightly daunting. John Kember tells you what to look out for, then shows it to you in a study, and then tops it off by putting it in context in a song or tune that you know. Marvellous.

For a fairly competent pianist with no jazz training this looks like a great introduction to the motifs and structures used. Some of the exercises are brief and designed to be repeated in multiple keys, some are pleasing little pieces you can enjoy for their own sake. There is plenty of information (chord names etc) which if studied carefully will I am sure help build a transportable understanding which can be applied to improvisation.

For pianists at grades 5-7 this provides great jazz arrangements of familiar and new tunes. My teenage daughter has played and enjoyed most of the pieces in this book constantly for the past 3 years - and the rest of us in the family still enjoy listening to them!
