It has the recorded music with the written music and it builds up slowly
It's a mistake to have the recorder music embedded in with other instruments like the piano - a beginner only needs to hear the recorder -

A very good introduction to music in general, as well as the recorder.
Very enjoyable jazzy CD accompaniments to go with the music, from the very beginning one-note pieces.
The print and music is quite small for young learners.

I teach recorder to 7-12 year olds and have tried many tutor books and this is by far the best. All the tunes and backing tracks are great fun and easy to play, the children actually looked amazed at how good they sound when playing. I only wish there was a whole series! I have ordered the Razzamajazz series by Sarah Watts and cannot wait to get them!

Easily the best recorder tutor- and I have tried several. Pupils love the jazz background music on the CD, and they can play along right from learning just the first note. I have found progress to be faster than with other tutors, and a larger number continuing with their studies. Highly recommended.

Bought this book for my 6 year old. It is easy to follow and explains how to make all the notes. Was recommended by our school, I see why.

I use this book with all the children I teach to play recorder and they all love it, singing and dancing along to the backing tracks. And the parents are happy to listen to them practice with the CD backing!

This has to be the GREATEST recorder book I have ever come across. Children just love playing from this book especially with the backing CD. It is the liveliest and most interesting book of its time, and SO MUCH FUN. The only downside is that for younger players, the second half gets a little tricky and requires more study and practice to reach the speed on the CD. I could not put my recorder down after helping my son with his practice and I have not played recorder in over 30 years. This is a must for children and adults and what a relief to find a book that keeps well away from 'Three Blind Mice' and brings LIFE into playing a fun instrument.

My younger students love this book! It includes practice patterns and rhythm exercises to aid with counting and finger coordination, alongside catchy pieces. There are duets and trios near the end of the book. The CD is at a sensible speed for a change and the students love going home to perform to family! Older students, or those that can already read music would get through this book very quickly, but perfect for the younger/slower learners.

A really useful resource which even makes playing B and A sound musical. I do think the print size is a little small, but this is because so much is included in the book. The CD is great and my year 3 beginners have really enjoyed playing the tunes. The addition of some duets with 'teacher' parts is useful for including slightly more advanced players.

There are great tunes for beginners to play but I would really like the CD to provide a backing track without the recorder playing so that students can hear themselves play with the accompaniment.

I have been a woodwind teacher for 16 years and came across red hot recorder at one of my new schools in September 2007. I have used many recorder tutors over the years but I couldn't believe my luck when I found this one. My pupils had just started playing recorder in October and were asked to play in a Christmas concert, they played the EBGB's song - very "catchy" tune - they were even singing it in the corridors!! Easy to learn and sounded very impressive! They enjoyed every minute and I don't have to tell them to practice!!!! A very big thank you - more please!!

It's nice to have some different melodies to play rather than the usual ones found in beginners books. My pupils love to have the backing track to play along with, especialy when they are just playing the first few notes.

An excellent resource for my school recorder group. The children love the pieces, they are fun and catchy. The progression of skills are ideal. Well laid out and easy to use. Great to have a CD backing track. The children are inspired and delighted with the progress they make!

This book gives a good start to the recorder suitable to very young children and giving a good emphasis on rhythm. I would highly recommend it. All my pupils love playing along with the piano teachers book or the cd which they can also practice with at home. A lot of the songs have two speeds making it accessible to all abilities.
