Books and CDs | Drums

Publisher: Amadeus Press
Author: John Riley
Format: Books | Instrumental Tutor
Celebrated drummer and tutor John Riley has created an in-depth method for the serious student of the Drums. Rather than simply giving you a set of exercises, Riley discusses conceptual drumming ideas including comping, time playing and soloing. He then moves on to examine the styles of other drumming artists including Elvin Jones, Philly Joe, Billy Higgins and Tony Williams, as well as discussing the importance of technique, effective warm-ups and much more.
An accompanying CD features Riley performing many of the examples himself.

          Musicroom Reviews

Talking about groove or soloing has always been such a dificult task because the right words are not easy to find. But in this book, apart from an in depth study of the special aspects of great drummers technique and compositions, John is also able to find those words to describe clearly the concepts that can't be shown in a pentagram. I just can't imagine how fun and inspiring his personal clinics and classes must be. Anyway I´m so happy to have three of his books. Buy them yourself and you´ll have the bible of jazz drumming in your own hands. Thanks john.
