Erik Satie: Three Gnossiennes For The Piano

Books | Piano

Publisher: G. Schirmer
Artist: Erik Satie
Format: Sheet Music | Instrumental Album

The title is most likely a vague allusion to Cnossus, Knossos, or Gnossos, an ancient city on the island of Crete - the site of the palace of the mythical King Minos and the labyrinth where the Minotaur was confined - richly associated in ancient Greek mythology with Jupiter, Ariadne, and Theseus, the hero who slew the Minotaur.

Three wonderful atmospheric pieces to play on piano. They also sound good on the organ; the bass semibreve on 16 foot stop on pedals, bass chords on soft setting on Swell and the treble line on a solo stop to give a "spiky" effect. It certainly wakes up any congregation in Church and elicits lots of comments (some favourable) after the service!

Excellent, clear, and un-cluttered print quality, good thick paper, so relaxing to play. I am enjoying Gnossienne No. 1 (Grade 4) & 3 (Grade 5-6). Highly recommended to Piano players of all ages.

This piece of music is fairly easy to master. It is very satisfyfing that within a week or two you can play it well (I have taken up the piano again after many years of not playing and am only at Grade 2 level). I am enjoying playing it enormously. Thank you for your prompt delivery.
