          Musicroom Reviews

This piece is on repertoire lists for the DipABRSM and LRSM diploma-levels offered by ABRSM. Whilst the piece doesn't test the upper register, it's rythmically difficult. Quick moving fingers, double- and triple-tonguing are needed. The last variation focuses heavily on large intervals between the lower- and middle-register and if done quickly and well enough almost sounds like two trumpets playing.

You've got to be very good to play this but it is so good if played properly. If there was a grade 9, this would be the first piece on the list as it is such a testing piece! You need; good lip slurs (up not down); to be fast with fingering; to be good at very fast double tongueing and slightly slower triple tongueing (but nonetheless very difficult); Intervals (from C to bottom G (Very challenging)). On top of everything else you need a lot of stamina.
