Publisher: ABRSM Publishing
Format: Books | Aural
Aural tests are an integral part of all ABRSM Practical graded music exams. The Specimen Aural Tests provide teachers and students with many practice examples of the tests to use as part of a music lesson or when preparing for an exam.

This volume covers Grades 1–3 and includes:

  • practice examples for each test in a range of musical styles
  • the examiner rubrics (the exact words that will be used by the examiner to deliver the tests), so that candidates can be fully prepared for what will happen on the day
  • descriptions of the tests as they appear in the syllabus
  • model answers, where appropriate, as a guide to the sort of responses that would be successful in the exam
The Specimen Aural Tests volumes are each available in versions with or without CDs.

I bought this book as the ABRSM aural tests are changing. It contains much more examples than the old version, and includes examples of what the examiners will say - which is brilliant especially if the student is nervous! It allows the student to be more prepared.

An essential for all teachers looking to submit pupils for ABRSM exams. Pupils should not be submitted without thorough practice through this book.

A great book for preparing for an ABRSM exam with practice tests and even what the examiner will say.

Much better than older book grades 1 - 5. Much clearer about what exactly is being asked for.

This book really shows brass teachers / students what to expect in the aural section of a music exam. It gives clear examples of questions that the examiner could ask, and the different types of test for each grade (1-3). However, unless you are profficient at playing the piano it might be better to purchase the Aural tests CD too!

Handy if you need to know exam requirements, although I usually make up my own "aurals" based on pieces from the pupils' own books.

The book is easy to use with students and everything is well explained. The language used is exactly the same as the examiners so students are prepared for the tests well in advance. Recommended for students and teachers preparing for graded exams.
