Under And Over is the easiest and best way to learn to play scales properly!

Taking the player from the basics, it introduces scales progressively and works through fun exercises (finger twisters!) to create solid technique and musicianship for playing smooth, steady and even scales. This foundation will make an obvious difference to all performance pieces.

Under And Over gives an easy to follow framework for learning, which both teacher and pupil will find invaluable. Scales become a fun part of each lesson to be approached with confidence.

The book contains everything you need to prepare for both the Associated Board and Trinty Guildhall Grade 1 and Prep test exams.

This book is ideal for the younger pupil with weak fingers and gives a very thorough preparation for the scale and broken chords requirements for their Grade 1 exam. I haven't come across any other book which teaches scales and broken chords so thoroughly and I am using this book with a child who has had just a few weeks of piano lessons.
No. There was nothing to dislike about this book. It would probably go into too much detail for some pupils who can skip some of the stages in this book. But all teaching books need to be tailored to the individual child.

A invaluable help to younger pupils as they start to learn their scales. They find the finger twisters great fun.

Clear diagrams and easy for students to read. I like the section at the end that tells you requirements for Grade 1 scales with Trinity and ABRSM listed seperately.
Some exercises caused more difficulty than the scales themselves.

This is a good introduction to scales for the younger pupil and the incentive of knowing all the AB Grade 1 scales by the end is a good one.
