I've been playing for almost 16 years now, and I have always struggled with extreme metal techniques, despite loving how they sound. Like many guitarists, this has often led to moments of frustration, and adapting my writing style to my poor technique! Having decided to finally do something about it, I spent a long time online checking out demo videos of techniques by such metal luminaries as Jeff Loomis and Alexi Laiho, before stumbling across Andy James. Instantly I felt that this guy could show me how to achieve the smooth legato speed I desired, and I wasn't wrong! My DVD arrived on a monday, but due to work and family commitments I was unable to watch it until the weekend - but boy, was it ever worth the wait! Within 10 minutes of watching the section on tapped arpeggios, I was busting them out at a higher speed than I had ever managed before; followed by FINALLY developing a decent, comfortable sweep picking technique. Whatever your level, Andy is such a good, clear teacher that I'm sure you could benefit. The sheer variety of techniques covered is astounding, and his sense of melody and harmony is phenomenal. If you want to step up your playing to a higher level, don't hesistate to buy this DVD - you'll be ecstatic that you did, just like me!

I looked at a few technique DVD's online before finally deciding on this one, and I was NOT disappointed! Andy James is a really accessible, easily watchable and follow-able teacher, who de-mystifies a lot of the seemingly difficult techniques and 'impressive' flourishes you often hear used by modern instrumental metallers. Within no time at all I'd discovered ways to improve my speed, although my legato technique still needs a bit of polishing! I can wholeheartedly recommend this DVD for anyone wanting to learn, develop, and master a whole range of techniques - you'll be glad you bought it.
