In a word – excellent.
This is a lovely collection of classical guitar music covering music from the last five hundred years.
As a teaching/learning resource it is invaluable to anyone studying the Trinity Grades. Carlos Bonell is a superb player and adds a distinct personality in his interpretation of these pieces. All the little nuances written in the Grade (6-8) books make perfect sense after hearing his inspiring performances.
The CD is a little expensive - but comparable with other classical CDs. Frankly, besides being a learning resource, you will want to add this to your music collection – it’s that good and compulsive listening. It serves as an excellent overview of the wide repertoire available to modern classical guitarists, from John Dowland to Duke Ellington and beyond.
Also included are recordings of the technical exercises for each Grade. These can be quite daunting/demanding and the addition of these to the CD makes it a complete learning package.
I will certainly be listening to it for years to come.
