Keri Degg: Songs For Claire - Alto Saxophone/Piano

Books and CDs | Alto Saxophone, Piano Accompaniment

Publisher: Spartan Press
Composer: Keri Degg
Format: Sheet Music | Instrumental Album
Songs for Claire is intended to portray a life journey, with all the joys and trials that may be encountered. From a personal point of view, it was written in memory of the composer's childhood best friend, Claire, who sadly died of cancer aged 10. Most people will be able to relate to the moods of the three movements, and draw from their own life experiences in order to create the expression desired.

Includes a CD of the piece performed by Keri Degg.

        Musicroom Reviews

I highly recommend "Songs for Claire" for saxophonists around grade 6+ standard as it is really effective at showing your expressive abilities. In a style almost of a ballad, the piece has a true story behind it ( printed inside) which really helped me play it with feeling. I recently chose to perform this in a music festival and was awarded full marks; it was extremely well received, with the examiners making a point of enquiring about the composer.

I bought this on a whim, and am so glad i did as it's now one of my favourite pieces! I enjoyed the challenge of the Timbral trills in the middle section and like the fact that the last movement can be used as a stand alone piece if wished. The CD was really helpful as it had both the demo tracks PLUS the accompaniment tracks. I have played this in college concerts and each time there has been a lot of interest due to it being a new original piece for saxophone (not an arrangement). Looking forward to more from this composer.

A very moving tribute to a childhood friend, Keri Degg has excelled herself in this piece. Not only very satisfying to play, but also to play along with the cd with Alistair Parnell on piano. I also find having the piano part to follow helps maintain timing as I have never found counting and playing the easiest of tasks. I would thoroughly recommend
