Robert Trory: Violin Playing - Book Five

Books | Violin

Series: Violin Playing
Format: Books | Instrumental Tutor
There is no other tutor like it. A complete system in five books that takes the student from the very first notes to Grade Eight and beyond. Beautifully presented and printed with visual clarity that helps the student learn to read music. No distracting cartoons. Enjoyable duets for pupil and teacher. Suitable for ALL ages.

Book five is an essential collection of studies that introduces playing in higher positions, tone production, more advanced string crossing, ricochet bowing, up bow staccato, and develops general facility. This book completes the requirements for grade seven and covers requirements for grade eight. It then leads on to a further study of the standard works of Kreutzer, Rode, Dont, Gavines and Alard amongst others, and to the contemporary work of Simon Fischer.

Book 5 is in the nature of a further development of using studies by famous pedagogic composers such as Mazas,Kreutzer,Dont, Fiorillo and Mr Trory! Although subtitled "30 Essential Studies" Trory does not abandon inclusion of his own teaching methods and observations. The sheer value of his work is to provide the pupil with a wonderful selection of challenging material under one roof, so to speak. This is so useful in that difficult time in an aspiring young violinst's maturation when he has to start abandoning the "safe" level of study hitherto, in order to perfect the techniques and challenges hinted at in Grade 6 study level by pushing on and through Grades 7 and 8 and beyond to the sunny uplands. The student will feel compelled to make a determined study of the challenges set down by the likes of Kreutzer and Dont etc, and I think this captures the essence of Trory's contribution, which is to inspire and enthuse the student at every level and stage of development.
