An attractive collection of American and British songs for the progressing singer. Includes a companion CD of piano accompaniments. Songs include Bright is the Ring of Words by Ralph Vaughn Williams, Spring Sorrow by John Ireland, Money, O! by Michael Head and three songs by Benjamin Britten: The Ash Grove, O Waly, Waly and The Salley Gardens, among others!
This book is a mixed bag really. I bought it because I love some of the songs in it, but sadly the arrangements are very odd - The Water is Wide (Waly, Waly) & The Ash Grove in particular. But that's just my personal preference. Some of the songs that I didn't know are really lovely and so after my initial disappointment I was encouraged.
I would say though that if you are a female with a proper alto range (in other words a real 'low voice') the top Es in some of these arrangements might come as a bit of a shock. Personally I'd say it's more of a mezzo-sop range, rather than an alto. Anonymous
