On the syllabus for ABRSM LRSM qualifications, this is one of the easier pieces listed. Excerpts are also often used as an audition piece for conservatoires. Starts quite freely with much rubato, followed by a spirited and quite violent motif (characterised by accented off-beats) heard both at beginning and end. Middle section is slow and subdued played with cup mute. Cadenza written by Dokshitser also featuring main motif. There is only one movement about 15/16 minutes in duration.
