David Franz has written very clearly about producing and recording. He provides comprehensive instruction about all basic recording techniques including the newest technology. He also talks about producer’s relationship with the artist and its role in all recording steps. The book is divided in three major chapters: preproduction, production and postproduction and the author's insightful guidelines are sure to help you find your feet in the recording business.

This book will lead you through the stages of making recordings in your home. In the beginning of the book there is a lot of reference to tape machines and other obsolete stuff. There is also a large chapter about your role as a producer - how to encourage your artists and so on, which you either will find very interesting or rather useless (if you are the artist yourself). The rest of the book contains what you would expect: Microphone techniques, recording, editing, mixing and mastering. One great chapter I will use as a reference, are the tips on how to eq different instruments and vocals.
