      Musicroom Reviews

I did not expect to engage with this book, not being much of a historian or particularly religious. I knew that much of Bach's works were written for the church. In the past I had only considered Bach's musical genius and his music, but never thought of him as a man. This book is not a difficult read, but can be quite tricky to follow in places, as the tale is not linear, and would benefit from a flow chart of his career path, a list of his friends and colleagues and a family tree; there are a lot of Bach's! The book has brought Bach to life for me and I'm certain that this, in turn, will help me to bring his music to life. For anyone interested in music, I recommend this book; I totally enjoyed it and will re-read soon.
