The bouzouki is a vital part of the instrumental line-up of many Irish session and performing bands, Zan McLeod, one of the Celtic music world's most talented bouzouki players, accompanists and arrangers, has created a lesson that is comprehensive enough to be of great value to beginners and experienced players alike.

With the help of button Accordion virtuoso Billy McComisky, Zan explores the bouzouki through the study of traditional reels, jigs and slip jigs. You'll learn to play in several keys using ringing drone strings, moving lines, chord substitutions, harmonized scales and counter melodies, all designed to enhanced your accompaniments. The tunes you'll be working on include 'Lady Anne Montgomery', The Galway Rambler', 'Kesh Jig', 'Barney Bralligan's' and 'The Butterfly'.

It gets you playing the bouzouki very quickly.
It's not really a raw beginners guide .it assumes that you know a little about chord structures and have had some basic lessons in playing a fretted intrument.

Brilliant DVD!. Zan only plays tunes he is going to teach you. None of this 'Look how good I am but I'm not going to show you how to play it'. There are some excellent tunes to learn but if you haven't played Bouzouki before then be prepared for sore fingers and long stretches.

The DVD starts out quite advanced, I would have expected to see backing of tunes with basic Chords building up to the more sophisticated fingering. However it is still a very good DVD and worth having if you own a Bouzouki or Mandola and wish to back Irish tunes

This is fantastic. You need to have some experience on a fretted instrument, but most people thinking of taking up Irish Bouzouki will have that. Good value when you think £20 would get you one, or at most 2 face to face lessons. Here you'll get 5 good tunes and loads of technique. If anything could be improved it would be close ups on the left hand fingers. Its the best DVD of its kind I've seen. - Thank You. Now, all I need to do is make time each day to put some practice in!
