Alan Murray: Madame Jeanette (SATB)

Books | SATB

Composer: Alan Murray
Format: Sheet Music | Vocal Work
Madame Jeanette is an a capella song for Chorus SATB written in 1936 which enjoyed enormous popularity as a high school Choral work in the US in the middle of the twentieth century. Composer Alan Murray and lyricist Edward Lockton -- better known as the team who wrote ‘I’ll Walk Beside You’ – created a short, haunting song about a widow of the First World War who waits for the fallen soldier husband who will not return. Madame Jeanette manages to remain on the side of loss and loyalty without tipping over into mere sentimentality.
