The Basics
One of the most compelling sounds in American music is made by glass or metal sliding on the strings of an acoustic guitar. Bob Brozman's remarkably detailed DVD lesson gives you all the tools you'll need to get started playing the powerful songs and thrilling instrumental solos of the legendary bottleneck blues players.
Beginnig players will learn all the fundamentals involved in playing bottleneck style: correct use of the slide, open tunings, rhythm backup, vibrato, harmonics, picing techniques and much more. Before long, you'll move ahead to blues licks, runs, turnarounds and solos that will enable you to recreate the dynamic sounds of Charliea Patton, Robert Johnson, Skip James, Muddy Waters, Elmore James and other Mississippi Delta blues greats.
By the end of this first lesson you'll have learned to play teh driving rhythms and wild slide sounds of Walking Blues, Can't be satisfied, Cross Road Blues and other powerful blues standards.

          Musicroom Reviews

Very pleased with this purchase although it is a little expensive. The tuition is clear and the tutor knows exactly what he is talking about. He is really enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the music and its history which makes the whole lesson more interesting. I would say that this is an excellent starting point for learning bottleneck guitar but you will need to be a reasonable 'normal' guitar player before learning to play the songs introduced. I'm not sure that I would therefore rate this 'beginner' although I imagine disks two and three are even more demanding. I have played guitar (not slide) for about 5 years and I feel comfortable with the level of the material. This seems to be a simple VHS to DVD copy so the only extra feature you'll get is the ability to quickly skip to the section you want. I think that still makes it worthwhile to buy the DVD version.
