As a how-to-do-it guide it is very practical and encourages effort.
None really. It is a beginners book, so one can't expect the material to be developed any further than current content.

I really like the way this book takes you through each of its recommended stages in such detail. It starts with exercises on the blues scale, but gives you these exercises in all twelve scales, and it moves to single bar examples, again in all twelve scales. For someone willing to put time and effort into practicing, this book is a tremendous resource. Although he stays with blues scales he makes use of two scales in each key and does give advice about reflecting the chord changes. This book very much stays with the 12 bar form but I see this as a strength. I have not had it long but I am enjoying it and definitely making progress.
