Housed in a slipcase which has been embossed with gold lettering, The Smiths And Beyond
is a superb quality pictorial record of the band from ’83 up to their split in ’87, as well as Morrissey’s solo career and shots of Johnny Marr both solo and with Electronic. This production is a limited edition of 1000 copies and each hardback book has been signed and numbered by Kevin Cummins. The book comprises 116 pages and many of the images within are making their first appearance.
When The Smiths emerged from Manchester in 1983, bringing colour and poetry to the post-punk music scene, Kevin Cummins was already held in high regard as a music photographer, not least for his portraits of the late Ian Curtis, Joy Division’s frontman. Morrissey was regarded by many as Curtis’ successor so it seemed almost natural that Cummings would become one of The Smiths’ most trusted and intimate chroniclers. Cummings travelled the world with them. He produced their publicity shots, did shoots for magazines and music papers and tracked their gigs, camera at hand.
Kevin Cummings is masterful photographer and in he provides more than a stunning visual history, both on and off stage, of The Smiths, the fans, Morrissey, Marr et al. Within the images, between the pages, an essence of what they stood for has been captured too.
- Includes a separate, individual print of Morrissey, autographed by Cummins.
- Book dimensions 35cm x 22cm.
