Karel Husa (b. 1921) is an American composer who was born and raised in Czechoslovakia. Twelve Moravian Songs is a charming collection of moderately difficult songs for solo Voice and Piano, originally intended for school use. They were finished c. 1955, just after the composer had settled in New York. The text and melodies were taken, virtually unaltered, from traditional folk songs from the Czech region of Moravia. The straightforward Piano accompaniment was added by the composer, and reflects the simplicity and beauty of the traditional tunes. The original text has been translated into English by Ruth Martin.
