Good structured learning programme using some well known tunes
Some pieces are quite dated and children don't know them

I bought this for my sister-in-law who has just started learning Alto Saxophone. It has progressive tunes which start with BAG and add notes gradually encouraging remembering what has been learnt. Finger chart of new notes at the top of tunes is also very useful. The tunes are a more interesting way to learn new notes than just playing patterns of notes.
not a bad point but a pull-out fingering chart would be very useful

Really excellent quick service and a really good book for a beginner. It's a shame there's no CD with it though.

Great improvement on the previous edition, much more relevant and up to date tunes. Good tutor for young beginners very simple and easy to follow.

This book isn't what I expected. It is advertised as having many tunes to play. In reality the tunes are very short extracts, sometimes only 2 lines! There are some useful alternative fingering practices but other than that I think this book is only suitable for an early beginner to the sax.
