Composer: Eric Whitacre
Format: Sheet Music | Vocal Work

The Heatland Festival, for whom this work was commissioned, had for years been home to a thriving Shakespearean festival. So when they asked Tony Silvestri and Eric to write an original work for them, they immediately decided that the poem should be a traditional fourteen line sonnet.

Born in 1970, Eric Whitacre has become one of the leading voices in contemporary choral composition. His concert works are regularly performed throughout the world.

Great piece - exhausting to sing so put it at the end of the first half of a programme so that singers have a chance to recover before the second half. A couple of tricky corners which frighten the altos. Follow the dynamics else it becomes a huge slog and save something for the final Long Live Oriana.
Lots of pages - a larger format would make it easier.
