The collection is a very good range of songs and music from popular songs to very early music. The technical level goes from the very simple to moderately difficult. There are pieces which will appeal to everyone from John Dowland to the Beatles and some are arranged very adeptly as duets. "Here, There and Everywhere" is one and "Cancion" by Manuel de Falla is another.
"Ode to Joy" isn't really suited to a guitar. It seems to crop up in every music tutor - and not just for the guitar - and really it needs an orchestra (and a voice!) to do it justice. Other than that, there is a really good selection of music in this book. Well worth the money.

My son has just pasted his prep test and this is the next stage for him. Just what he needs for starting to prepare for Grade 1.

This book (together with volume 2) is the publication that finally meant classical guitarists could take ABRSM exams through to grade 5 without having to buy three separate books/pieces for each grade! It's well laid out, and contains a good mixture of solos and duets. The concept of ordering the pieces by date is really helpful for young guitarists who often struggle to place guitar music in context.

This is a super tuition book with a wide range of pieces - the "Time" of the title is when it was written, which ranges over 1000 years. I am neither pupil nor teacher but the mother of a pupil, but I see that the pieces range from those accessible to a beginner to Grade II pieces.
