Howarth: Academy Oboe Reed (Medium-Soft)

| Oboe

Publisher: Howarth
Medium-Soft. These reeds have a long "U" scrape which makes them free blowing and easy to control. The tuning and sound quality is second to none and they are excellent value for money. Ideal for improvers - advanced players, these reeds are all hand finished and should not need any further adjustments. Howarth of London are now internationally known as makers of the finest oboes.

Had tried some more expensive reeds but this one was far and away the best for quality.

The oboe player in the house said the reed was lovely and needed no adjustment
As the one who pays the bill, I find most things oboe related incredibly expensive!

These are excellent reeds for the price. The are easy to blow, whilst making quite a good sound over the full range of the oboe. As an amateur musician who struggles to find enough time to practice, I find they require less stamina than many other reeds to make a similar sound. Only 4 stars as dynamic contrast not always as wide as might be, they have a slight tendency to develop a crack top to bottom - but not particularly prematurely. Have had a couple slightly wobbly on their staples - not a problem just off-putting!
