Henry Walford Davies: Christmas Is Coming

Books | SATB

Publisher: Novello & Co Ltd.
Format: Sheet Music | Vocal Work

In this version of Christmas Is Coming, the traditional Chorus is intact, but the composer has created his own verse tune and four-part harmony with humorous interpolations by the bass Voices.

Walford Davies was a composer and musical director at the University of Wales as well as Organist at, among others, Temple Church in London where his student Leopold Stokowski (later one of the leading conductors of the 20th century) assisted him. Davies is best remembered for this work and for the march ‘RAF March Past’. Davies also did much to educate the public about serious music through radio programmes and his writings.

This a very enjoyable piece. A good short piece with which to finish a Christmas Concert. Harmonies are not that difficult but dynamics and speed changes need some attention. However the changes found in this short and simple piece make it worthwhile.
