        Musicroom Reviews

Unlike the free organ works, which generally require a reasonably advanced technique, Buxtehude’s chorale settings are very approachable to the intermediate organist. Most are two or three pages in length and are scored for performance using solo-accompanimental registrations on two manuals and pedal. Though all are (arguably) beautiful, some are exquisitely so, "Es ist das Heil uns kommen her" being the reviewer’s particular favourite. With volume 5 (the second part) it forms a collection of music which epitomises the very best of what the north German Baroque chorale tradition has to offer.
