Sonatina Album (ed. Biegel)

Books and CDs | Piano

Publisher: G. Schirmer
Format: Sheet Music | Instrumental Album
The sonatinas within this album, written some 200 years ago, remain favourites of both students and teachers. They offer a lively introduction to the more complex cousin of the sonatina, the sonata. Literally meaning, a "little sonata" the sonatina is structured in such a way that it resembles a scaled down version f the larger musical form. Included in this album are nine favourite pieces by Clementi, Kuhlau, Dussek and Beethoven Set for Piano solo, edited by Jeffrey Biegel.

The Schirmer Performance editions are designed for piano students and teachers as well as professional pianists. These editions offer insightful interpretative suggestions, pertinent fingering, and historical and stylistic commentary to provide an accurate resource for pianists.

I bought this as I was looking for a selection of complete sonatinas for my intermediate students to play. It comprises Celementi op.36 no.1 to 4, Beethoven KA5 no.1, Dussek op.20 no.1 and Kuhlau op.55 no.1 to 3. There are helpful background and performance notes. It is a superior quality book - nice presentation and paper. I will look at others in the series.
I couldn't find a list of the sonatinas included online.
