Jennifer Linn: Les Petites Images

Books | Piano

Publisher: Hal Leonard
Composer: Jennifer Linn
Format: Sheet Music | Instrumental Album
Les Petites Images is a perfect introduction to Jennifer Linn's popular intermediate-level book in French style, Les Petites Impressions. Written in Impressionist style, the 7 solos in this easier collection evoke detailed images of the titles.

Although these solos are at a late-elementary level, there are quite a few ‘easy-sounds-hard’ gems in this book that will make those younger students sound very accomplished. Early-intermediate students may also find these pieces very enjoyable to learn or read through.

To familiarize students with the notation found in Debussy and Ravel, titles have been written in French with English subtitles. Expressive instructions are also in French, with a glossary provided in the introductory pages.

        Musicroom Reviews

These enchanting and cleverly composed gems by Jennifer Linn are sheer delight and an enticing introduction to impressionist music. The graceful arpeggiated patterns and atmospheric melodic lines lie easily under the hands of lower intermediate/intermediate pianists (grades 3-4). Perhaps the jewel of them all is Butterflies in the Sunlight, which conjures up the magic of the title with every sparkling phrase. My other favourites so far are ‘Hummingbird’, with it’s perpetual motion whirring backdrop, the poignant ‘Winter’s End’, and ‘Evening Tide’, with its sonorous use of space. The titles are in French, suggesting the impressionist style, and, as you can see, the covers are very inviting. I’m looking forward to exploring more repertoire from this gifted composer, who has also given us a set of very useful anthologies, Journey Through the Classics.
