        - Good pictures for posture and the layout is easy to look at.
        - A lot of the pieces will be found in the guitarist's way books.
Not very suitable for primary teaching as the progression from the total beginner to novice is a fairly steep learning curve. Probably better for secondary students who can handle the quicker pace.

What a fabulous book. I can't recommend this enough. It is well paced, has a great learning curve, covers a huge amount of topics and most importantly, it looks cool and fun! It is ideal for a beginner and fits in very well with individual and group teaching. The included Ensemble pieces are excellent and the arrangements of the exercises are very well done. I urge you to give this a try. I have and I can't imagine working without it.

This is the best guitar tutor I have come across. I work as a guitar teacher and my students are using this book. It is thorough and it covers ALL the important elements of playing guitar. The layout is also very nice, and funny.. If you don't have a guitarteacher the accompanying CD and the illustrations will help you understand how to play. Check out the whole series. Highly recommended!

This book is quite simply the most complete and thorough beginner's method available that I have seen. As well as the well-thought-out structure, I like the folk-song chord playing section at the back, the relevant music theory explanations, completing tunes, aural "games" and the inventing/improvising. All of these help the student to become more musically literate. The technical explanations are also clearer and more precise than most other books. As well as the solo guitar material, there is also a supplement with guitar ensemble material and the book also has an accompanying CD containing all of the music. Taken as a whole, Guitar Academy seems to cover all the important stuff which the other books have missed out!
