Al Hall (1915-1988) was an American Jazz bassist. He founded the short-lived Wax record label in 1946, and signed some of the best mainstream Jazz players of the day for it. This 24 track CD, The Wax Label Sessions, forms the definitive re-issue of most of its sessions. Highlights include 8 tracks with the exquisite pianist Jimmy Jones, the Al Hall Quintet on top form with the nearly-forgotten Dick Vance on Trumpet and the saxophonist Ben Webster at his peak, the legendary Jonny Hodges, and many, many more.
This rare chamber-group swing release is a welcome and valuable addition to the catalogue, and is an indispensable element of any Jazz lover’s library.
