Jaromir Weinberger (1896-1967) was a Czech composer who spent most of his life in the United States, becoming an American citizen in 1948. He wrote over 100 works, but the only one which has endured to the present day is the 1926 opera Schwanda The Bagpiper, which has been preformed in 17 different languages, and was performed thousands of times between the wars.
The Polka is one of the two orchestral excerpts from Schwanda The Bagpiper which are still regularly performed. It has been arranged here for Piano duet by Joan Trimble. Included are separate scores for each part.
