The CAGED system is the key to understanding the guitar. Clearly explained, this video opened up the whole fretboard for me. Aimed at the rock player, but all will benefit. Very good.

This is the first Lick Library DVD I've bought with Jamie Humphries in it. Mainly based on a review on www.shred-reviews.co.uk. And its also the first "educational" one. i.e. not a Quick Licks or Learn to Play. I really do gel with his teaching style. The material isn't anything new at all, if you have read books like Fretboard Logic, Roadmaps, Caged Guitarist, Troy Stetina's Fretboard Mastery. BUT, going through the CAGED system works much better on DVD compared to a book. I think this is because the material itself is very dry, and its almost impossible to diligently go through a book on this subject alone, without getting distracted and noodling away. But with the DVD, it sort of keeps you going. I would suggest when going through it for the first time, making a note of things that will form an exercise that will take you a few minutes, and build these into your daily practice. Rather than just trying to play these tasks along with the DVD (which you will NOT keep up with Jamie if this new to you). If you either dabbled with the CAGED method of understanding chord/scale patterns etc, OR if you currently have no understanding at all of this area, I'd thoroughly recommend this DVD. It IS like going back to square one, but its not going to take you months to understand, and its the best format for this subject I have seen.
