Good for sight reading exercises (my tutor uses this book so useful to have).

CD useful for 'counting' practice and worth the extra.

Typescript massively improved over previous edition.
Terminology and notation advances quickly for a 'basic' book - e.g. introduces 'swing' very early and probably before the basics are nailed. This also results in excessive clutter.

          Not a book for a self-teacher imo.

Great book for 15 year old moving on to alto saxophone from clarinet

The book itself is great, a totally comprehensive introduction to playing the sax, my 6 year old son is progressing weel. Just a bit dissapointed by the CD which I assumed would have the pieces in the book played on the sax, so that my son could listen to them and hear how they should be played. Instead it is accomplements for the pieces, which are not helpful at this early stage as he can not keep up with them and if he falters or makes a mistake essentially he has to start the whole piece again. The cheaper book without the CD would have been a better buy.

Excellent! I purchased this book for my daughter who was learning at to play at school and it saw her through grades one and two without a problem! The CD was also very helpful to tackle tricky rhythms on her exam pieces to ensure she was getting the highest marks possible. Recommended to saxophonists aiming for grades one or two, or both!
