The pupil /teacher duets right from the early lessons are very encouraging for the student. they give them a feeling of really making music, even while their abilities are still very limited.

        Musicroom Reviews

A sound foundation from an expert. Waterman is old fashioned in her teaching style, but it works well. Few other books I have used progress from total beginner to being fully prepared for starting the Grade 1 syllabus. No need to buy 2 or 3 books in a series to achieve the same result.

This is the book that I used most for absolute beginners of 9 and older. It is a bit dry, but technically very good and the pace of learning is good for adults and older children.

Whilst there is sound material in this book, it is old-fashioned in presentation and does not proceed in a logical way - e.g. the concept of sharps is introduced on page 14. On page 16 there is a duet in the key of G, but there are no sharps in the pupil's part, ditto the duet on page 26 and piece on page 31. The concepts of flats and naturals are introduced on page 24, but there are only two pieces containing flats in the whole book, in the repertoire section, which is mostly too dificult for this level anyway. None of my pupils would practise the number of daily exercises there are. You could use this book for supplementary work, but I wouldn't use it as a main tutor. I prefer the Piano Time series for clear, logical progress and realistic expectations of the average child (or adult).
