Farewell to Stromness is a piano interlude from The Yellow Cake Revue, a sequence of cabaret-style numbers against uranium mining in the Orkney Islands. The Revue was first performed at the St Magnus Festival, Orkney, by Eleanor Bron, with the composer at the piano, in June 1980.

This performance inspired Timothy Walker to transcribe Farewell to Stromness for solo Guitar. He performed it two days later in Kirkwall Cathedral as part of the same festival.

That the two pieces of music, one for piano, one for guitar, thrilled the two recipients who love PMD's music, as do we.

If you like a contemplative style of music and playing this is definitely a piece to have.
It seemed a little pricy for a couple of sheets of paper but otherwise no bad points.

This piece is relatively easy, accessible to a fairly competent amateur.
The piece is a degree monotonous but would be a hit with Ainaudi fans.
