Even teenagers (and they're difficult to teach) will work at a book that gets you playing both hands together after one lesson.
The transposition section gets rid of the fear of #'s and b's giving the correct insight into the key system.
The technical pieces at the end are a tiny bit too long.
More folk-type melodies have a general appeal and piano technique can be taught on most well-written pieces. The emphasis here is on well-written for badly written piano music is a curse to all.

The best older beginner book I have found. Incredibly practical, easy to use, additional worksheets to test your theory, with everyday tunes; a system encompassing all areas of music learning.

Slightly too basic for someone with some small musical experience. Probably would have been better with level 2 but it is clear and well written and useful for reference to easy theory.

This is the finest book I have ever used to teach adults and even teenagers. It is a no-nonsense series that sends the person of average intelligence away from the first lesson playing with both hands. Not many piano tutors can boast this! The pieces are not always the most exciting but technique is built soundly and as long as the lessons move with pace can be completed within one year. Obviously it is necessary to off-set some of the work with lighter music and Bastien does recommend different books.
